Paladin
A heavily armored warrior who specializes in close-range combat and durability.
How it plays
The game uses a first-person perspective. The main objective is to fight through large interconnected areas, locate keys and switches, solve environmental puzzles, and defeat bosses guarding progression.
Players select one of four classes, collect weapons and ammunition, use health and mana items, and activate magical artifacts. Levels are grouped into themed worlds with hubs, locked routes, secrets, traps, and major encounters. DOS multiplayer supports competitive deathmatch modes when configured for network or local play.
Plan your run
Explore methodically rather than rushing from fight to fight. Mark locked doors and unusual switches so that newly acquired keys or quest items can be used efficiently.
Conserve mana and powerful ammunition for bosses and crowded encounters. Search side rooms and alcoves for artifacts, armor, health, and secret areas, and use each class's strengths instead of treating every weapon as interchangeable.

Hexen II is a dark-fantasy first-person shooter developed by Raven Software and published by Activision for DOS in 1997. Built on a modified Quake engine, it combines fast weapon-based combat with medieval exploration, puzzles, magical abilities, and interconnected levels. Players choose from four character classes, each with different weapons, statistics, and combat approaches, then pursue the final Serpent Rider, Eidolon. The campaign moves through several themed regions and emphasizes key hunting, switches, secret areas, and backtracking rather than a purely linear sequence. Contemporary reception generally praised its atmosphere, architecture, class system, and expanded single-player design, although some critics found the level navigation and puzzle structure less approachable than conventional shooters.
