How it plays

How does Hi-Octane play?

Races take place from a first-person cockpit perspective on futuristic tracks containing ramps, tunnels, hazards, and alternate routes. The objective is to finish ahead of opponents while managing speed, fuel, armor, ammunition, and vehicle damage.

Players select among several hovercraft with different performance characteristics, then use mounted weapons and track knowledge to gain an advantage. Progression centers on individual races and championship-style competition rather than character development. The DOS release also supports competitive multiplayer modes, depending on the selected setup.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Hi-Octane?

Learn each track before attempting to win consistently. Memorize fuel and ammunition locations, use shortcuts only when they do not expose the vehicle to unnecessary fire, and avoid spending all ammunition early in a race.

Choose a vehicle whose handling suits the track, protect armor on narrow sections, and prioritize finishing reliably over attacking every opponent. In multiplayer, controlling space and denying useful pickups can matter more than taking direct shots.

Before you begin

What should you know before playing?

  1. 1

Manage fuel, ammunition, and armor rather than treating every race as a pure speed test.

  2. 2

Use the cockpit view and track landmarks to learn braking points and alternate routes.

  3. 3

Vehicle choice affects handling and survivability, so test each craft before championship races.
