How it plays

How does Hillsfar play?

The main view presents Hillsfar and nearby areas from a top-down perspective. The objective is to complete quests, explore locations, gather information, and improve a single character rather than manage a full adventuring party.

Different activities use separate play styles: street movement and encounters, first-person dungeon exploration, archery contests, horse racing, and tavern games. Fighters, clerics, magic-users, and thieves have different abilities, and characters imported from other SSI Forgotten Realms games can begin with established statistics and equipment.

Progress comes from completing assignments, finding rewards, gaining experience, and purchasing or using better equipment. Combat and certain challenges depend heavily on real-time or action-based input.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Hillsfar?

Explore the city carefully and speak with available contacts before committing to a quest. Keep enough money for equipment and recovery, because failed action sequences can waste time and resources.

Choose activities that suit the character class. Thieves benefit from stealth-oriented tasks, while fighters are better prepared for direct combat. Imported characters can provide a stronger starting point, but learning the controls remains important because several challenges are action-based.
