Fun School 2: For the Under-6s
DOSEducational
How it plays
The player views the arena from the hovercraft cockpit and drives through enclosed 3D courses. The main objective is to capture the other team’s flags and bring them back to the home base while protecting the player’s own flags.
Courses contain ramps, barriers, narrow passages, and opposing hovercraft. Progress comes from learning efficient routes, using the arena layout, and completing increasingly demanding matches rather than gaining permanent character levels.
Plan your run
Learn the arena before committing to a flag run. Efficient routes are usually safer than the most direct route, especially when barriers or opposing craft can force a collision.
Track the location of both teams’ flags and return home as soon as a capture is secured. Use open space to maintain speed, and avoid unnecessary contact when carrying a flag.
Before you begin
Memorize shortcuts and turning points in each arena.
Plan an escape route before taking a flag.
Avoid collisions when carrying a captured flag.
Hover! is a first-person action game developed and published by Microsoft for DOS in 1995. It combines fast arena driving with capture-the-flag rules: the player pilots a futuristic hovercraft through enclosed courses, collects the opposing team’s flags, and returns them to base. Movement is presented from inside the vehicle, while ramps, walls, hazards, and rival craft make each route a timing challenge. The game is primarily a single-player experience, with selectable matches and escalating objectives. Hover! was remembered for its unusual 3D presentation, responsive vehicle handling, and entertaining multiplayer-style arena design, although its simple rules and dated visuals limited its long-term depth.
