Fun School 2: For the Under-6s
DOSEducational
How it plays
The game is viewed from inside the spacecraft cockpit. The main objectives are to travel between star systems, complete missions, fight hostile ships, and earn money for improved equipment and supplies.
Gameplay alternates between navigation, trading, and combat. Players select destinations and contracts, monitor ship systems, and engage opponents in real-time space battles. Progress depends on successful missions and financial management rather than a fixed series of linear levels.
Plan your run
Plan routes around fuel, repair, and equipment costs before accepting distant missions. Avoid unnecessary fights when a contract can be completed more safely, and use earned money to maintain the ship as well as improve its combat capability.
Before you begin
Keep enough money and supplies available for repairs and future travel.
Compare mission risk with the expected payment before committing to a route.
Hyperspeed is a science-fiction space combat and trading game developed and published by MicroProse Software for DOS in 1991. It combines first-person spacecraft simulation with a strategic campaign built around interstellar travel, commerce, and military contracts. The player pilots a fast combat spacecraft across a network of star systems, choosing missions, purchasing equipment, and managing the risks of hostile encounters. Its cockpit-oriented presentation and open-ended mission structure reflect the computer simulation design of its era. Reception was generally mixed: players appreciated its breadth and atmosphere, while some found the interface and combat demanding compared with more action-focused space games.
