Iron Soldier
The player-controlled heavy mech used for every mission and assault.
How it plays
The game is viewed from inside the mech cockpit. Each mission places the Iron Soldier in a city or industrial area and gives the player objectives such as destroying enemy units, buildings, or other designated targets.
The mech can walk through the environment, turn its upper body, aim weapons, and fire from its mounted arsenal. Missions are completed in sequence, with later operations introducing tougher opposition and more demanding objectives. The campaign is the primary mode; no separate multiplayer mode is documented for the Jaguar release.
Plan your run
Learn to manage the mech’s facing and weapon aim separately so that targets can be tracked without constantly changing direction. Keep moving when facing enemy fire, but avoid wasting ammunition on structures or units that are not part of the current objective.
Study the mission briefing before advancing, use the cockpit display to monitor damage and weapons, and approach large targets from positions that give you room to retreat. Later missions reward careful target priority more than indiscriminate firing.

Before you begin
Prioritize targets named in the mission objectives.
Use movement and positioning to reduce incoming fire instead of relying only on armor.
Conserve limited ammunition for durable enemies and required targets.
Iron Soldier is a first-person mecha action game developed by Eclipse Software Design and published by Atari Corporation for the Atari Jaguar in 1994. The player pilots a large bipedal combat machine through a campaign of military operations against enemy forces and industrial targets. Missions combine direct combat, movement through urban environments, and the destruction of specified objectives. Its cockpit viewpoint and broad weapon loadout give it a distinctive simulation-inspired presentation, while the controls and mission design remain focused on arcade-style action. The game was notable for bringing a 3D mech experience to the Jaguar and was generally regarded as one of the system’s stronger technical showcases, although its difficulty and sometimes rough handling divided players.
