Dr. Brain
An eccentric scientist whose island laboratory contains the educational tests and puzzles.
How it plays
The game is viewed from illustrated first-person screens around Dr. Brain’s island laboratory. The main objective is to solve a sequence of independent puzzles and earn access to additional parts of the island.
Players inspect locations, select objects, and answer or manipulate puzzle elements. Challenges include logical deductions, numerical problems, memory tests, scientific identification, and spatial tasks. Progress is based on completing tests rather than defeating enemies, and the game generally allows players to revisit areas and retry challenges.
Plan your run
Read every instruction carefully before attempting a test, especially when a puzzle introduces unfamiliar rules.
Use trial attempts to identify the logic of a challenge, then work methodically. For memory and spatial puzzles, note positions and patterns before making a selection; for mathematical tasks, eliminate impossible answers first.
Meet the cast
An eccentric scientist whose island laboratory contains the educational tests and puzzles.
The Island of Dr. Brain is an educational puzzle-adventure game developed and published by Sierra On-Line for DOS in 1992. The player visits the island laboratory of the eccentric Dr. Brain and completes a series of tests designed to measure and improve reasoning skills. Its challenges cover subjects such as logic, mathematics, memory, science, and spatial relationships, presented through a point-and-click interface and illustrated environments. Rather than following a conventional action-game structure, it emphasizes observation, experimentation, and careful problem solving. The game was well received for making educational content approachable and entertaining, and it became the first entry in Sierra’s Dr. Brain series.
