Fun School 2: For the Under-6s
DOSEducational
How it plays
Players compete across golf holes while choosing clubs, judging distance, selecting shot direction, and controlling the timing or power of each stroke. The objective is to complete a round in as few strokes as possible, with hazards, greens, and course layout affecting decisions.
The defining feature is the course designer. Users can construct and modify holes, place terrain and hazards, save layouts, and return to play their creations. The game is best approached as both a single-player golf simulation and a toolkit for producing repeatable custom courses.
Plan your run
Study the hole layout before selecting a club, especially the position of water, bunkers, trees, and out-of-bounds areas. Favor a safe landing area over maximum distance when a hazard threatens the next shot.
In the designer, test each hole from multiple tee positions and confirm that the intended route is playable. Save versions regularly so that an experimental change does not ruin a working course.
Before you begin
Use conservative club choices around hazards and on unfamiliar custom courses.
Play-test designed holes before treating them as finished layouts.
Jack Nicklaus' Unlimited Golf & Course Design is a DOS golf simulation developed by Sculptured Software and published by Accolade in 1990. It combines traditional golf play with an extensive course-design component, allowing players to create, edit, save, and play custom layouts rather than being limited to a fixed selection of holes. The game uses a mostly top-down presentation for course management and shot planning, with timing and club selection shaping each stroke. Its appeal is divided between simulation-minded play and construction tools. Contemporary reception generally recognized its breadth and flexibility, although the interface and technical presentation could feel demanding compared with simpler arcade golf games.
