Fun School 2: For the Under-6s
DOSEducational
How it plays
The game uses a top-down tactical perspective. The player controls a squad of mercenaries on grid-based or tile-oriented battlefields, with objectives that can include eliminating enemies, securing an area, or completing a mission under hostile conditions.
Combat is turn-based and action-point driven. Mercenaries can move, crouch, aim, fire, reload, use equipment, and interact with the environment. Weapon condition, ammunition, injuries, attributes, and morale affect performance. Missions reward careful planning rather than simply advancing, and the squad’s equipment and personnel choices shape later encounters.
Plan your run
Scout before committing the whole squad, use cover, and keep vulnerable mercenaries away from exposed lines of fire. Save action points for reactions or emergency movement when possible.
Match weapons and roles to each mercenary’s skills, carry spare ammunition, and treat injuries before they reduce the team’s combat effectiveness. Avoid wasting accurate shots on distant targets when repositioning can create a safer attack.
Before you begin
Use cover and concealment before opening fire.
Check ammunition and weapon condition between missions.
Give different mercenaries complementary weapons and roles.
Jagged Alliance: Deadly Games is a DOS tactical strategy game developed by Sir-Tech Canada and published by Sir-Tech Software. It focuses on commanding a team of hired mercenaries through turn-based combat rather than presenting a large, scripted campaign. Players assemble a squad, equip its members, and fight across mission-based battlefields against hostile forces. The game emphasizes careful positioning, weapon management, stealth, and the individual skills of each mercenary. Its scenario-driven structure supports repeated missions and custom battles, giving it a more combat-focused identity than the original Jagged Alliance. Reception generally recognized its deeper tactical systems and flexibility, although its interface and difficulty could be demanding for newcomers.
