Enrico Chivaldori
The former ruler of Metavira who hires the player to help recover the island from Lucas Santino.
How it plays
The game uses a top-down tactical perspective. The player recruits mercenaries, equips them, and sends them into sectors of Metavira. Battles are turn-based, with action points used for movement, aiming, firing, inventory actions, and other commands.
Outside combat, sectors must be captured and managed. Workers can harvest the island's valuable sap, while doctors treat wounded mercenaries and trainers improve militia. Progress depends on balancing money, personnel, equipment, and the order in which territory is attacked.
Plan your run
Recruit a balanced team rather than relying only on the cheapest mercenaries. Medical, mechanical, and leadership skills are valuable alongside combat ability, and wounded specialists should be protected from unnecessary risks.
Secure sectors methodically and keep defensive militia in captured areas. Manage ammunition and equipment carefully, use cover and overwatch-like positioning where possible, and avoid attacking heavily defended sectors before your squad is prepared.

Jagged Alliance is a turn-based tactical strategy and role-playing game developed by Madlab Software and published by Sir-Tech for DOS in 1994. The player is hired to help Enrico Chivaldori reclaim the island of Metavira from Lucas Santino, managing a roster of mercenaries and fighting through hostile sectors. Combat combines squad positioning, firearms, equipment management, and individual mercenary skills. Between battles, the player controls the wider operation by assigning workers, treating injuries, and deciding which areas to secure next. The game was noted for its detailed mercenary system and open-ended tactical structure, establishing the foundation for the Jagged Alliance series.
