How it plays

How does King's Bounty play?

The player explores an overhead fantasy map, searching for quests, castles, hidden treasure, movement routes, and recruitable creatures. The main objective is to locate the Sceptre of Order before the available time runs out, while completing subsidiary goals and building a force capable of surviving increasingly difficult encounters.

When combat begins, the game switches to a turn-based tactical screen. Units occupy individual positions and can move, attack, or use abilities according to their type. The hero does not fight as a normal battlefield unit; instead, leadership, spells, item bonuses, and army losses shape the battle. Progress comes from gaining experience, improving the hero, finding equipment, and recruiting stronger troops.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play King's Bounty?

Recruit troops that complement one another rather than spending all funds on a single powerful unit type. Preserve high-level creatures whenever possible, because experienced armies are difficult to replace.

Explore systematically and watch the campaign's time limit. Save before major battles, compare enemy compositions, and use terrain, ranged units, spells, and morale-related advantages to reduce avoidable losses.

  • Keep reserve gold for recruitment and emergencies.
  • Match troop abilities to the enemy rather than relying only on numbers.
  • Search for items and hidden routes that improve movement, leadership, or spell use.
