How it plays
The game uses a side-scrolling perspective. Kirby explores stages, defeats enemies, collects food and items, solves simple environmental obstacles, and reaches a goal or defeats a boss.
Several campaigns and minigames provide different structures, including traditional journeys, boss-focused challenges, and short competitive activities. Kirby can inhale enemies, copy many of their powers, discard an ability, or turn a copied power into a helper controlled by the computer or a second player.
Progress is usually made by completing story sections and unlocking additional modes. Health recovery, ability selection, and helper management are central to surviving difficult encounters.
Plan your run
Use enemy abilities deliberately rather than relying only on inhaling. Keep a useful power for the next area, and discard it when a different ability is better suited to a boss or obstacle.
Helpers can absorb damage and attack independently, but they can also be defeated. Create a helper before difficult encounters and replace it when its health is low.

Kirby Super Star Ultra is an action platformer and expanded remake of Kirby Super Star, developed by HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo for Nintendo DS. Kirby travels through a collection of interconnected adventures, swallowing enemies, copying their abilities, and creating helpers from copied powers. The game combines traditional side-scrolling stages with boss battles, minigames, and several self-contained story campaigns. Its presentation retains the colorful, approachable style of the original while adding new content, animated scenes, and dual-screen features. Critics and players generally praised its variety, polished controls, cooperative play, and generous amount of content, although some regarded it as more of a refined remake than a wholly new Kirby adventure.
