Ak'shel
An ambitious spellcaster and one of the four playable heroes.
How it plays
The game uses a first-person view for exploring castles, wilderness areas, ruins, and dungeons. The main objectives are to travel through interconnected locations, find key items, solve environmental puzzles, defeat enemies, and stop Scotia. Combat takes place in real time, with weapons, spells, and defensive equipment managed through the interface.
At the beginning, the player chooses between four characters. Each has different combat abilities and attributes, but all can acquire equipment and improve through the adventure. Progress is mainly story-based: new areas open after important discoveries, conversations, and victories.
Plan your run
Search every room carefully and examine containers, shelves, and unusual wall features. Keep multiple weapon types and useful defensive items available, since different encounters reward different approaches.
Save before major battles and before entering unfamiliar areas. Identify unknown potions cautiously, manage limited inventory space, and revisit locations when a newly acquired key item makes previously inaccessible paths usable.

Lands of Lore: The Throne of Chaos is a first-person fantasy role-playing game developed by Westwood Studios and published by Virgin Games for DOS in 1993. The player must defend the kingdom of Gladstone from the witch Scotia, whose search for an ancient artifact threatens the realm. Exploration, combat, item management, and puzzle solving are presented through a dungeon-crawler perspective, with a choice of four protagonists who have different strengths. The game combines real-time movement with a point-and-click interface and a story-driven structure. It was well received for its accessible design, colorful presentation, memorable voice work, and polished interface, and it became one of Westwood's best-known non-strategy games.
