How it plays
The game uses a side-view perspective. Players move through linear platforming stages, avoid environmental hazards, defeat enemies, and reach the end of each level.
Timon and Pumbaa provide the main playable perspectives, with their different physical abilities shaping how obstacles are handled. Progression follows a sequence of themed stages based on the film, with challenge coming from enemy placement, jumps, and timing rather than from a large inventory or open world.
Plan your run
Learn the timing of each character’s movement and attack before rushing through a stage. Use the wider or stronger character abilities when an obstacle leaves little room for error.
Watch enemy patterns and approach gaps conservatively. Replaying earlier sections is useful for learning hazards, since the game’s progression is stage-based and does not rely on extensive equipment upgrades.
Meet the cast
A quick-witted meerkat and one of the two main playable characters.
A powerful warthog and Timon’s companion, serving as the other principal playable character.
The lion prince whose life forms the central subject of Timon and Pumbaa’s retelling.
Before you begin
Treat unfamiliar jumps as timing challenges rather than rushing them.
Use enemy patterns to choose safer openings.
Replay difficult sections to learn their hazard layout.
The Lion King 1½ is a side-scrolling action platformer developed by Vicarious Visions and published by Disney Interactive for the Game Boy Advance. It adapts the animated film’s comic side story, following Timon and Pumbaa as they recount their role in Simba’s life from their own perspective. Players guide the pair through hazards, enemies, and platforming challenges across environments inspired by the film. The game emphasizes straightforward movement, jumping, attacks, and character-specific abilities rather than complex exploration. Its reception was generally mixed: reviewers recognized the recognizable Disney presentation and accessible design, but often considered the gameplay conventional and relatively limited compared with stronger handheld platformers.
