Choose plays according to the down, distance, and field position rather than repeatedly using the same formation. Short passes and conservative runs can protect a lead, while changing defensive formations helps prevent the opponent from exploiting predictable coverage.

Manage the clock near halftime and the end of the game. On defense, watch the ball carrier and pursue from an angle instead of running directly behind the play.
