How it plays

How does Manic Miner play?

Each cavern is shown as a single fixed screen containing platforms, ladders, hazards, enemies, collectibles, and an exit portal. Willy must collect all required objects, then reach the exit while avoiding enemies, falling too far, or touching dangerous scenery.

The game contains a sequence of caverns with different layouts and hazard patterns. Lives and the oxygen timer limit attempts, so progression depends on learning safe routes, identifying timing windows, and repeating difficult jumps accurately.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Manic Miner?

Study each cavern before committing to a route. Identify which enemies move predictably and which jumps require a running start.

  • Collect objects in a safe order rather than crossing the same hazard repeatedly.
  • Watch the oxygen meter and avoid unnecessary pauses.
  • Use spare lives to learn enemy cycles and platform timing.
  • Treat long falls and moving enemies as separate timing problems.
