How it plays
Races use a top-down or angled overhead perspective across closed circuits filled with jumps, water, mud, pipes, ramps, and other hazards. Players steer, accelerate, brake, drift, collect items, and attack or obstruct opponents.
Grand Prix progress is divided into four-race cups and multiple engine classes. Finishing races earns points toward a cup ranking, while better performance can unlock additional content. Time Trial focuses on lap records, and multiplayer supports competitive racing with compatible Game Boy Advance systems.
Plan your run
Learn each circuit's corners before relying on items. Short hops and controlled drifts help maintain speed through turns, while braking is useful on narrow sections and sharp bends.
In Grand Prix, consistency matters more than winning every race. Save defensive items for incoming attacks, use boosts on clear straightaways, and study time-trial routes to identify shortcuts and safer racing lines.

Editorial context
A technically impressive handheld Mario Kart with a large track selection and responsive racing.
The overhead viewpoint and demanding later cups make it feel distinct from the console entries.
Mario Kart: Super Circuit is a kart-racing game developed by Nintendo Research & Development 2 and published by Nintendo for the Game Boy Advance. It combines traditional circuit racing with drifting, weapons, hazards, and speed boosts drawn from the Mario Kart formula. The game includes twenty original tracks, several Grand Prix classes, time trials, single-player modes, and multiplayer support. It was widely praised for bringing the series' familiar racing mechanics to a handheld while preserving a substantial amount of content. Its most distinctive feature is the large set of unlockable Super Mario Kart tracks.
