Button prompts in battle identify which brother’s button is required.
Many attacks and defenses require timed presses rather than a single immediate input.
How it plays
The game uses a top-down perspective for exploration and a menu-based, turn-based battle system. Players travel through the Beanbean Kingdom, solve environmental puzzles, collect equipment and beans, and confront enemies and bosses.
Mario and Luigi act separately during field actions, using their jumps and hammers to cross obstacles or trigger mechanisms. In battle, each brother has his own button, and well-timed presses can increase damage or avoid attacks. Bros. attacks consume BP and require memorized button sequences. Experience raises levels, while equipment, badges, beans, and stat choices improve the party.
Plan your run
Use the correct brother for each field action: Mario generally handles red mechanisms and Luigi handles green ones. Practice the timing for normal attacks before spending BP on Bros. techniques.

The timed inputs make even standard battles feel active, although some players may find repeated button sequences demanding.
Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga is a comedic action role-playing game developed by AlphaDream and published by Nintendo for the Game Boy Advance. Mario and Luigi travel beyond the Mushroom Kingdom to recover Princess Peach’s stolen voice, which has been taken by the witch Cackletta and her servant Fawful. The game combines top-down exploration with turn-based battles built around timed button presses and coordinated Bros. attacks. Its colorful presentation, character writing, and inventive combat were widely praised. Reviewers particularly noted how the game gave Luigi a more active and humorous role while adapting familiar Mario abilities to an RPG structure. It is the first entry in the Mario & Luigi series.
