How it plays
The main mode is a turn-based board game viewed from an overhead perspective. Players roll dice, move along branching spaces, gather coins, and attempt to purchase Stars; after each round, everyone usually plays a minigame whose result affects the next turn.
Story Mode presents a sequence of boards and boss encounters, while Party Mode allows players to configure rules and opponents. Minigames use the buttons, touch screen, microphone, or stylus, and success rewards coins or advances in dedicated challenge modes. Board events and item spaces create alternate routes and reversals.
Plan your run
Coins are often as important as immediate movement. Consider item shops, branching paths, and the likely Star location before choosing a route.
In minigames, learn whether the objective rewards speed, accuracy, or survival. Save useful items for turns that can secure a Star or disrupt a rival, and watch the event spaces on each board.

Mario Party DS is a party and board-game title developed by Hudson Soft and published by Nintendo for Nintendo DS. Players control familiar Mushroom Kingdom characters across themed game boards, collecting coins and Stars while competing in short minigames. The Nintendo DS hardware supports touch-screen, microphone, and dual-screen challenges alongside traditional button controls. The game includes a story-focused solo mode, standard party play, and separate minigame activities for single-player or multiplayer sessions. It was generally well received for its accessible rules, varied minigames, and strong use of DS features, although some players found the computer opponents uneven and the board selection smaller than in certain earlier entries.
