How it plays

How does Mario Party DS play?

The main mode is a turn-based board game viewed from an overhead perspective. Players roll dice, move along branching spaces, gather coins, and attempt to purchase Stars; after each round, everyone usually plays a minigame whose result affects the next turn.

Story Mode presents a sequence of boards and boss encounters, while Party Mode allows players to configure rules and opponents. Minigames use the buttons, touch screen, microphone, or stylus, and success rewards coins or advances in dedicated challenge modes. Board events and item spaces create alternate routes and reversals.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Mario Party DS?

Coins are often as important as immediate movement. Consider item shops, branching paths, and the likely Star location before choosing a route.

In minigames, learn whether the objective rewards speed, accuracy, or survival. Save useful items for turns that can secure a Star or disrupt a rival, and watch the event spaces on each board.
