Fun School 2: For the Under-6s
DOSEducational
How it plays
The player explores Mars from a top-down perspective, moving through settlements and outdoor areas while examining locations, speaking with inhabitants, collecting objects, and managing the party’s supplies. Progress depends on finding information and using the correct equipment or item at the appropriate location.
Encounters use turn-based decision-making. The party must choose suitable actions, manage health and resources, and advance through connected areas as new objectives become available. The game’s structure rewards methodical exploration more than reflexes.
Plan your run
Search every accessible area and speak with inhabitants more than once when the story changes. Keep notes about clues, locations, and items, because progress can depend on remembering where a useful object belongs.
Conserve supplies before entering unfamiliar areas, and avoid treating every encounter as a fight. Review the party’s equipment regularly and use the safest available option when the game presents several possible actions.
Before you begin
Explore methodically and record important clues.
Check inventory items against locations and conversations.
Save resources before entering new areas.
Mars Saga is a science-fiction role-playing game developed and published by Interstel Corporation for DOS in 1988. It places the player on a colonized Mars where a small group must explore settlements, gather information, manage equipment, and deal with threats in an unfamiliar environment. The game combines exploration, conversation, inventory management, and turn-based encounters rather than presenting a purely action-oriented adventure. Its interface and presentation are characteristic of late-1980s computer RPGs, with a strong emphasis on reading situations and making careful decisions. Mars Saga remains a relatively obscure release, but it is notable as an early attempt to apply traditional party-based role-playing ideas to a Mars setting.
