Fun School 2: For the Under-6s
DOSEducational
How it plays
Missions take place from inside the cockpit of a battle mech. Objectives include destroying opposing mechs, defending locations, escorting units, and reaching designated areas. The player manages movement, torso and leg direction, weapon groups, heat, armor, ammunition, and damage during combat.
Before deployment, a mech can be selected and configured with different weapons and equipment within its available tonnage. Campaign missions unlock progressively, and performance affects access to later assignments. Training, single missions, and multiplayer options are also available in the DOS release, depending on the installed version.
Plan your run
Use terrain and range to control engagements rather than charging directly into groups of enemies. Keep the torso aimed independently of the legs when possible, and concentrate fire on one target to remove threats quickly.
Watch heat and ammunition throughout every mission. Avoid repeated use of energy weapons when the heat gauge is high, and aim for exposed or damaged sections instead of spreading fire across the entire enemy chassis.
Before you begin
Learn the weapon ranges and heat behavior of each configured mech before attempting difficult campaign missions.
Target damaged limbs or weapon-bearing sections to reduce an enemy's combat ability.
Save ammunition for missions where long-range ballistic or missile fire is especially useful.
MechWarrior 2: 31st Century Combat is a first-person mech simulation set in the BattleTech universe and developed and published by Activision. The player pilots a Clan battle mech during the brutal Refusal War between Clan Wolf and Clan Jade Falcon, choosing one side and advancing through a sequence of combat assignments. Its play style combines vehicle simulation, weapons management, tactical positioning, and mission planning. The DOS release was widely regarded as a major improvement over earlier MechWarrior games, particularly for its detailed 3D battlefields, extensive customization, and atmosphere. It became one of the best-known PC mech games of the 1990s.
