Fun School 2: For the Under-6s
DOSEducational
How it plays
The game is viewed from inside the bomber and divides attention among piloting, navigation, combat positions, and aircraft systems. Missions require the crew to reach targets, maintain formation and altitude, defend against enemy aircraft, release bombs accurately, and return safely.
Players assign crew members to stations and respond to damage, fuel concerns, weather, and enemy attacks. Progression is based on completing missions and keeping the aircraft and crew operational; careful preparation and damage control are often more important than aggressive flying.
Plan your run
Plan the route and crew assignments before takeoff. Keep defensive positions staffed during vulnerable sections of the mission, and monitor aircraft damage rather than waiting for a system to fail.
Conserve ammunition and fuel, maintain formation when possible, and prioritize a safe return after bombing. Practice navigation and crew management on simpler missions before attempting the most demanding objectives.
Before you begin
Learn the cockpit and crew stations before attempting difficult missions.
Monitor damage and fuel continuously; small problems can become mission-ending failures.
A successful return is often more valuable than perfect bombing accuracy.
MegaFortress is a detailed military flight simulation developed by Dynamix and published by Sierra On-Line for DOS in 1991. It places the player in command of a B-17 Flying Fortress during World War II, combining piloting with the management of a large bomber crew. The game emphasizes authentic aircraft systems, crew assignments, navigation, bombing, and survival rather than arcade-style action. Its first-person cockpit presentation and broad tactical scope made it an ambitious simulation for its era. Reception was generally favorable among players seeking depth and realism, although the complex controls and demanding procedures could make it difficult for newcomers. MegaFortress is best approached as a crew-management and mission-planning simulation as much as a flight game.
