How it plays
The game is viewed from the side and is divided into sectors of the B.S.L. research station. Samus explores rooms, defeats enemies, finds routes through obstacles, and accesses navigation rooms to receive mission objectives.
Progression comes from acquiring abilities and upgrades, including missiles, bombs, the Morph Ball, new suits, and beam enhancements. These tools open previously inaccessible paths and help defeat increasingly dangerous creatures. The campaign uses save rooms, map stations, elevators, boss encounters, and environmental hazards to structure exploration.
Plan your run
Explore each sector methodically and inspect the map for unvisited rooms, narrow passages, and suspicious dead ends. Save often, especially before entering unfamiliar areas or approaching a boss.
Use the scan and observation elements of the environment to identify destructible blocks. Preserve missiles for enemies and bosses that resist normal beam fire, and learn the SA-X's movement patterns rather than attempting to fight it before the game allows it.
Meet the cast
A bounty hunter investigating the X parasite outbreak aboard the B.S.L. station.
The station's computer AI, based on the personality and military knowledge of Samus's former commanding officer.
A powerful X-based imitation of Samus wearing the Varia Suit and carrying her abilities.
Before you begin
Shoot walls and floors when a route seems to end unexpectedly; hidden blocks are common.
Return to earlier sectors after obtaining new abilities, since some upgrades are deliberately backtracked.
During boss fights, prioritize learning attack patterns over dealing constant damage.
Metroid Fusion is a science-fiction action-adventure platformer developed by Nintendo R&D1 and published by Nintendo for the Game Boy Advance. It follows bounty hunter Samus Aran after an organism called the X parasite infects her during a mission on SR388. A vaccine derived from Metroid DNA saves her, but changes her abilities and places her under the supervision of the Galactic Federation. The game combines exploration, shooting, platforming, and environmental puzzles in a more structured campaign than earlier Metroid titles. Samus investigates the abandoned B.S.L. research station while an imitation known as the SA-X hunts her. Fusion was widely praised for its atmosphere, storytelling, controls, and technical presentation, though its guided progression was more linear than previous entries.
