How it plays

How does Monopoly play?

The game uses a top-down view of a Monopoly board. On each turn, a player rolls the dice, moves the token, and resolves the space reached.

Players can buy unowned properties, pay rent, draw cards, pay taxes, use railroads and utilities, and interact with jail rules. Completing color groups allows houses and hotels to be built, increasing rent. The objective is to bankrupt the other players while managing cash and property assets.

Available play is turn-based, with human and computer participants selected before the game begins. Progress comes from acquiring complete color groups, developing them evenly, and surviving opponents' rent demands.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Monopoly?

Buy strategically rather than spending every dollar. Completing color groups is more valuable than owning many scattered properties, and railroads can provide dependable income when a full color set is unavailable.

Keep enough cash available for rent and forced payments. Develop complete groups evenly, watch which properties opponents need, and avoid trading away a set that gives another player a strong monopoly. Jail can sometimes be advantageous late in the game, when the board is heavily developed.
