How it plays

How does Myth: The Fallen Lords play?

The game uses a top-down, freely rotating battlefield view. Missions usually give the player a fixed force and a specific objective, such as defeating an enemy army, escorting units, holding a position, or reaching an extraction point.

Players select individual soldiers or groups, move them across terrain, and issue attack, guard, formation, and special ability orders. Archers require clear lines of sight, while dwarves can use explosive satchel charges and civilians or thrall-like units have different battlefield roles.

There is no base construction or conventional resource economy. Progression comes from completing campaign missions, surviving with key units, and adapting the available force to each scenario. Multiplayer battles support competitive tactical play with opposing armies.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Myth: The Fallen Lords?

Keep units grouped, but avoid placing every soldier in one dense cluster. Use the terrain to protect ranged units and give archers time to fire before melee troops engage.

  • Save the dwarves' explosive charges for tightly packed enemies or narrow approaches.
  • Scout cautiously; ambushes and hidden enemies are common.
  • Preserve experienced or named units whenever possible, because campaign missions can depend on their survival.
  • Use formations suited to the terrain, and do not chase fleeing enemies into unknown areas.
