Fun School 2: For the Under-6s
DOSEducational
How it plays
The game uses a behind-the-car or cockpit perspective, depending on the selected view. The main objective is to finish races ahead of opponents while managing traffic, corners, braking, and the different performance characteristics of each car.
Events use point-to-point and circuit-style road courses, with options involving regular races, time-focused driving, and police pursuit play. Progression comes from selecting faster or more capable licensed cars and learning each course; the DOS version does not use a modern experience-level or character-progression system.
Plan your run
Brake before tight corners rather than entering them at maximum speed. Smooth steering and early acceleration usually produce better exits than repeated corrective inputs.
Learn traffic patterns and course landmarks, and select a car whose handling suits the track. In pursuit events, avoid unnecessary collisions and use the road layout to create distance from police vehicles.
Before you begin
Use braking before corners and accelerate progressively on corner exits.
Practice each course to learn traffic locations, curves, and safe overtaking lines.
Try cockpit and chase views to determine which gives the clearest awareness for each track.
The Need for Speed: Special Edition is a racing game developed by EA Canada and published by Electronic Arts for DOS. It combines arcade-style accessibility with simulation-minded handling, licensed cars, police pursuits, and scenic road courses. Players race high-performance vehicles through traffic and varied environments, choosing between competitive events and freer driving challenges. The Special Edition builds on the original game with additional content and improvements. It was historically noted for its detailed presentation, realistic-looking cars, and emphasis on the sensation of high-speed road driving, helping establish the Need for Speed identity before the series moved toward more action-oriented designs.
