How it plays
How does Need for Speed: Underground play?
Races are viewed from a behind-the-car perspective. The main objective is to finish ahead of rival drivers while managing corners, traffic hazards, acceleration, braking, and any available nitrous boost.
The Underground progression links events together and unlocks additional races and vehicle improvements. Quick Race-style play provides a more direct way to enter individual events. The precise event selection and presentation differ from the console editions, so this version should be treated as a separate handheld adaptation rather than a one-to-one port.
Plan your run
What is the best way to play Need for Speed: Underground?
Brake before tight corners instead of entering them at maximum speed. Learn each course’s turn sequence, then use acceleration aggressively when exiting corners.
Save nitrous for long straights or for recovering from a poor corner. Vehicle upgrades are most useful when they improve acceleration and handling, since these qualities matter repeatedly across short races.
Before you begin
What should you know before playing?
- 1
Prioritize clean corner exits over reckless top speed.
- 2
Use nitrous on straights rather than directly before a sharp turn.
- 3
Replay familiar events to learn braking points and improve consistency.
