How it plays
The player adopts a dog, gives it a name, and manages its daily needs from a first-person room and neighborhood perspective. Touch-screen menus handle feeding, grooming, toys, training, and other care activities.
Walks let the dog explore routes, meet other dogs, and find items. Disc competitions, agility trials, and obedience contests provide structured events in which practice improves performance. Money earned from activities can be spent on food, accessories, toys, and additional dogs. New breeds and items become available as the owner builds experience and savings.
Plan your run
Keep a regular routine: feed and groom the dog, take it for walks, and practice one competition at a time. Use short training sessions and reward correct responses promptly.
Save money for useful food, toys, and accessories rather than buying every novelty item. During walks, vary the route and watch the dog closely for presents or other encounters.

Nintendogs: Lab & Friends is a pet-simulation game developed by Nintendo EAD and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo DS. It focuses on adopting and caring for virtual Labrador Retrievers and other unlockable dog breeds rather than following a traditional story. Players feed, groom, train, walk, and play with their dogs using the DS touch screen and microphone. The game is structured as an open-ended daily routine, with competitions and walks providing longer-term goals. Its approachable controls and expressive dogs made it one of the DS’s best-known early titles, and it was widely praised for demonstrating the system’s touch and voice features. Progress is intentionally gentle, rewarding regular care instead of demanding fast reflexes.
