How it plays

How does Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee play?

The game uses a cinematic side-scrolling perspective across connected rooms and industrial environments. Abe must escape RuptureFarms, guide fellow Mudokons to safety, and survive hazards such as traps, guards, mines, and hostile creatures.

Players explore, pull levers, activate machinery, sneak past enemies, and use Gamespeak commands to communicate with Mudokons. Abe can chant near certain enemies to possess them temporarily, allowing access to abilities or machinery unavailable to him. Progress depends on solving environmental puzzles and finding routes through increasingly dangerous areas.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee?

Observe each room before moving. Traps, patrol patterns, and timing are usually more important than speed.

Use Gamespeak carefully, save or trigger checkpoints when possible, and rescue Mudokons rather than rushing past them. Possession is often the safest way to disable a threat or operate machinery.

  • Test suspicious floors and objects from a safe position.
  • Memorize patrol routes before committing to a crossing.
  • Revisit areas when a new route or possession opportunity becomes available.
