How it plays
Battles use a top-down, grid-based perspective. The player moves a party across terrain, attacks Genma, uses skills or items, and completes objectives such as defeating enemies or reaching a location.
The campaign is organized into story battles connected by exploration and dialogue. Characters gain experience, improve their abilities, and can use different weapons or equipment. Positioning, attack range, terrain, and turn order are important, while optional encounters and resource management support progression.
Plan your run
Use terrain and attack range to control enemy approaches rather than advancing the entire party at once.
Keep durable characters in front and protect fragile spellcasters or ranged attackers. Check equipment and healing supplies between battles, and give experience to a balanced group so that one defeated unit does not cripple the party.
Meet the cast
The young central warrior who leads the fight against the Genma and forms the game's main party.
A major Onimusha hero who appears as an important ally.
A skilled warrior from the Onimusha setting who joins the supernatural conflict.
A recurring warrior associated with the Onimusha cast and the campaign's allied forces.
Before you begin
Study enemy movement and attack range before ending a character's turn.
Keep healing items available for longer story battles.
Upgrade equipment regularly instead of relying only on character levels.
Onimusha Tactics is a turn-based tactical role-playing game developed and published by Capcom for the Game Boy Advance. It places the player in a fantasy version of Japan's Sengoku period, where the young warrior Onimaru gathers allies and confronts the demonic Genma. Battles take place on grid-based maps, combining character movement, weapon attacks, magic, and tactical positioning. The game adapts the supernatural atmosphere and several ideas from the Onimusha series into a portable strategy format rather than an action game. Its campaign follows a linear adventure with battles, equipment management, and recruitable allies. Reception was generally mixed: the familiar setting and accessible strategy systems were appreciated, while critics often found the presentation and combat less ambitious than the console games.
