How it plays
The action is viewed from a first-person perspective. Players move through urban buildings and underground areas, locate objectives, fight terrorists and other enemies, collect weapons and ammunition, and search for items needed to advance.
Levels are structured as maze-like missions with locked areas, switches, doors, and occasional environmental destruction. The campaign emphasizes surviving firefights and managing ammunition rather than offering separate multiplayer or character-progression systems.
Plan your run
Conserve ammunition for stronger enemies and use explosive weapons when several targets are grouped together. Search side rooms and damaged sections of the environment for supplies before moving into major combat areas.
Learn the layout of each mission and check for switches, doors, and objective items. Because enemy attacks can come from narrow corridors, retreating to a previously cleared area is often safer than pushing forward while low on health.
Before you begin
Search thoroughly for ammunition and mission items.
Use explosives against groups, but avoid firing them at close range.
Operation Body Count is a 1994 DOS first-person shooter developed and published by Capstone. It places the player in a devastated New York City after terrorists seize the United Nations and threaten the population with a biological weapon. The game uses a Wolfenstein 3D-derived engine and combines corridor shooting with explosive weapons, destructible scenery, civilians, and a large arsenal. Its ambitious setting and variety of weapons were notable for the period, but contemporary reception was generally mixed because of dated technology, uneven level design, and awkward controls.
