Lester Knight Chaykin
A young physicist who is transported to an alien world by an experiment and must survive its dangers.
How it plays
The game uses a side-view perspective. Lester must move through hostile environments, avoid traps, solve environmental problems, and fight alien creatures while searching for a way to survive and escape.
Progression is linear and divided into tightly designed scenes rather than selectable stages. Lester later obtains a pistol with different functions, including firing, creating protective barriers, and charging shots. Death is frequent, but restarting a scene allows the player to learn enemy patterns and puzzle solutions.
Plan your run
Observe before acting. Many hazards are placed just outside the visible action, so advancing cautiously and testing enemy behavior is safer than running forward.
Use the pistol deliberately: the normal shot handles exposed enemies, the force field provides temporary protection, and charged shots can break through barriers or defeat stronger threats. Remember scene passwords when restarting after a failed attempt.

Another World is a cinematic action-adventure game developed by Delphine Software and released for DOS in 1991. It follows Lester Knight Chaykin, a young physicist transported to a hostile alien world after a laboratory experiment goes wrong. The game combines platforming, environmental puzzles, exploration, and carefully staged combat with minimal dialogue. Its rotoscoped animation, atmospheric presentation, and unforgiving trial-and-error design made it a landmark of early cinematic games. The DOS version preserves the compact, story-driven structure of the original while adapting it to personal computers. Reception was strongly positive, particularly for the game’s visual style, suspenseful pacing, and unusual narrative approach.
