Fun School 2: For the Under-6s
DOSEducational
How it plays
Battles use a top-down map divided into terrain locations and movement spaces. The player selects units, moves them according to their capabilities, attacks suitable targets, and uses terrain to improve survivability and positioning.
Scenarios provide the main structure, with objectives determined by the selected battle. Victory depends on defeating opposing forces, holding important locations, or meeting the scenario’s conditions. Turns alternate between opposing sides, and careful management of movement, range, line of fire, and unit losses determines progression through the battle.
Plan your run
Reconnaissance and positioning are usually more valuable than rushing forward. Use terrain for protection, keep vulnerable units away from unsupported attacks, and concentrate fire on exposed enemy formations.
Before committing to an assault, check movement limits, firing opportunities, and likely retaliation. Preserve strong units for objectives that must be held late in the scenario, and avoid spreading the army so widely that units cannot support one another.
The Perfect General II is a turn-based tactical wargame developed by Quantum Quality Productions and published by Strategic Simulations, Inc. for DOS. It presents fictionalized modern military conflicts in which players deploy units, manage terrain and firepower, and attempt to defeat an opposing force under scenario-specific conditions. The game is designed around deliberate planning rather than fast reactions. Its scenario system supports both sides of a battle and emphasizes replay through different deployment choices and tactical approaches. As a sequel, it expands the series’ battlefield command formula while retaining the structured, tabletop-inspired style associated with SSI strategy games. Reception was generally positive among wargame players, although its complexity and dated presentation limited its appeal outside that audience.
