Nevada Smith
An archaeologist and the playable protagonist who explores the tombs.
How it plays
Pharaoh's Tomb is viewed from the side, with each chamber presented as a self-contained platforming screen. The objective is to reach the exit while collecting valuables, finding keys, avoiding hazards, and surviving enemies.
Nevada Smith runs, jumps, climbs through passages, and navigates ladders and platforms. Progress depends on learning safe routes and timing movement around traps. The shareware release is organized into groups of tomb chambers, with later areas demanding more precise platforming.
Plan your run
Study each chamber before committing to a jump. Collect keys and valuables while checking for hidden routes, but do not take unnecessary risks when a safe path is available.
Use short, deliberate movements near spikes, falling hazards, enemies, and narrow platforms. If a room seems impossible, look for a ladder, alternate route, or timing pattern rather than trying to cross it at full speed.

Pharaoh's Tomb is a DOS platform game created by George Broussard and published by Apogee Software. It follows the archaeologist Nevada Smith as he explores dangerous Egyptian tombs in search of treasure and ancient relics. The game combines single-screen platforming with traps, enemies, keys, collectibles, and puzzle-like routes. Players must move carefully through compact chambers rather than simply rushing toward the exit. Its challenging design, colorful low-resolution graphics, and shareware distribution helped establish it as an early Apogee title. The game is historically notable for its demanding timing and for introducing a recognizable adventure-platforming style associated with several later DOS games.
