Fun School 2: For the Under-6s
DOSEducational
How it plays
The player views a large world map while sailing between colonial ports, settlements, and landmarks. At sea, navigation leads to ship-to-ship combat, boarding actions, and encounters with merchants, pirates, and naval forces.
In towns, players trade cargo, recruit crew, gather information, and accept or pursue opportunities. Sword fights are direct one-on-one encounters, while dances, map searches, and political decisions provide additional activities. Progress comes from capturing ships, earning money and rank, improving the fleet, and managing crew morale and aging.
Plan your run
Choose a target nation and keep your political status in mind before attacking ships or towns. A strong crew is important for both boarding and morale, so avoid recruiting beyond what your finances can support.
Trade profitable cargo between ports, repair damaged ships regularly, and use smaller captured vessels until you can maintain a better flagship. Keep notes about treasure-map clues and do not postpone family and aging-related objectives indefinitely.
Before you begin
Save before major battles, town attacks, and treasure-map searches.
Watch crew morale and food supplies during long voyages.
Use diplomacy and letters of marque when direct attacks would create too many enemies.
Sid Meier's Pirates! Gold is an action-adventure and strategy game developed and published by MicroProse for DOS in 1993. It is an enhanced remake of the 1987 game Pirates!, placing the player in command of a privateer during the colonial era. The game combines real-time sailing and sword fighting with trading, diplomacy, treasure hunting, and turn-based map exploration. Players choose their allegiance, recruit a crew, raid enemy shipping, and pursue personal goals such as wealth, revenge, or advancement. Its open-ended structure and varied activities were widely praised, although the interface and repeated battles can feel dated today.
