How it plays
Planetfall is played from a first-person perspective through a text parser. Examine rooms, move between locations, collect and manipulate objects, and enter commands to uncover what happened on the planet.
The adventure is organized around exploration and a sequence of environmental puzzles. Progress depends on discovering useful information, managing hazards, and applying items or commands in the correct context. Saving frequently is important because some actions can lead to danger or an unwinnable state.
Plan your run
Read every room description carefully and test objects with commands such as EXAMINE, TAKE, OPEN, and USE. Keep notes about unusual machinery, messages, and locked areas.
Save before entering dangerous locations or attempting an unfamiliar action. If progress stops, revisit earlier rooms with newly understood information rather than repeatedly trying random commands.
Meet the cast

Before you begin

Keep a map and record doors, machines, messages, and timed hazards.
Save often, especially before experiments and dangerous sequences.
Editorial context
A classic parser adventure remembered for its atmospheric writing, clever puzzles, and Floyd.
Planetfall is a science-fiction interactive fiction adventure developed and published by Infocom for DOS. You play an inexperienced spacefleet officer assigned to menial duties aboard a deteriorating vessel. After an emergency forces you onto an apparently deserted planet, survival and investigation become your priorities. The game is driven by written commands, environmental observation, item use, and puzzle solving rather than graphics or action sequences. Its humor, strong prose, and memorable robot companion Floyd helped establish it as one of Infocom’s best-known works. Contemporary and later reception has generally praised its writing, atmosphere, and character moments, while acknowledging that some puzzles require careful experimentation and attention to small textual clues.
