How it plays

How does Pokémon FireRed Version play?

The player explores Kanto from an overhead perspective, moving through towns, routes, caves, forests, and buildings. The main objectives are to defeat Gym Leaders, earn eight Badges, challenge the Pokémon League, and complete the Pokédex.

Wild Pokémon are encountered in grass, caves, and water, while trainers initiate battles when approached or spotted. Battles are turn-based: the player selects moves, uses items, switches Pokémon, or attempts to catch wild Pokémon. Experience raises levels and can trigger evolution. Trading and battling with other players require compatible link connections.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Pokémon FireRed Version?

Build a balanced team with several different types rather than relying on one powerful Pokémon. Keep levels reasonably close together, carry healing items, and pay attention to type advantages during Gym and rival battles.

Explore optional routes and caves, talk to residents, and return to earlier areas after obtaining new field moves. Save before important battles, rare encounters, and story events. The post-game Sevii Islands provide additional areas and Pokémon after the main story.
