Pokémon HeartGold Version is a Japanese role-playing adventure developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo DS. It remakes Pokémon Gold Version with the content and setting of the Johto region, while adding updated systems from later games. Players explore towns, routes, caves, and landmarks, capture Pokémon, train a team, and challenge Gym Leaders before confronting the Pokémon League. The game also includes the Kanto region after the main Johto quest. Its touch-screen features, animated battles, Pokéwalker support, and companion Pokémon system were widely praised. Critics and players commonly regard HeartGold as one of the strongest Pokémon remakes, although its traditional structure and backtracking can feel dated.
