How it plays

How does Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team play?

The game uses a top-down perspective. Players explore randomly generated dungeon floors one tile at a time, fight wild Pokémon, collect items, and complete rescue or delivery objectives.

The rescue team gains experience, recruits defeated Pokémon, and unlocks new areas and missions. Hunger, limited inventory space, traps, status conditions, and changing floor layouts make preparation important. The main story is supported by optional missions and post-game dungeons.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team?

Plan each expedition around its objective rather than defeating every Pokémon. Keep recovery items, status cures, and a few escape options when entering difficult dungeons.

Use corridors and room entrances to limit the number of enemies that can attack at once. Manage hunger and inventory space carefully, and recruit Pokémon whose moves and abilities complement the current dungeon.
