How it plays
The player explores Sinnoh from a top-down perspective, moving through routes, caves, forests, and towns. The main objectives are to earn eight Gym Badges, defeat the Elite Four and Champion, complete the regional Pokédex, and investigate Team Galactic's plans.
Wild Pokémon appear in specific areas and can be captured, trained, evolved, and used in turn-based battles. The story progresses through towns and route-based areas, while the Battle Tower, Super Contests, underground activities, trading, and battles provide optional content.
Plan your run
Build a balanced team with different types and keep several Pokémon close to the level of the next Gym Leader. Carry status-healing items and use held items or move effects to compensate for type weaknesses.
Explore each route thoroughly for items, optional battles, and new species. Save rare evolution items until the team plan is clear, and use the Pokétch applications and Pokémon storage system to track utility Pokémon and party roles.

Pokémon Pearl Version is a Japanese role-playing game developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo DS. It is set in the Sinnoh region, where a young Trainer travels between towns, catches and trains Pokémon, challenges Gym Leaders, and confronts the ambitions of Team Galactic. The game combines turn-based battles, exploration, collection, and character progression with optional activities such as contests and multiplayer trading. Its dual-screen presentation, online features, and expanded Pokédex made it a major Nintendo DS release. Critics generally praised its depth and long-term appeal, while some noted that its battle and movement systems remained deliberately traditional.
