How it plays

How does Pokémon Platinum Version play?

The game uses a top-down exploration perspective with battles presented from a first-person viewpoint for the player’s Pokémon. The main objective is to collect eight Gym Badges, defeat the Elite Four and Champion, and stop Team Galactic’s plans.

Players travel through routes, caves, forests, and cities, catching Pokémon, managing a six-member party, learning moves, and exploiting type matchups. Progress unlocks new areas and story events. Optional activities include the Battle Zone, Battle Frontier, contests, mining, and post-game legendary encounters.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Pokémon Platinum Version?

Build a balanced party with varied types and reliable moves rather than relying on one heavily overleveled Pokémon.

Use the Pokétch, held items, status effects, and type advantages to prepare for Gym Leaders and the Elite Four. Keep several Pokémon near the party’s average level, and return to earlier areas after obtaining new field moves to collect optional items and encounters.
