How it plays
The game uses a top-down exploration view. Players travel through routes, caves, seas, and towns, battle wild Pokémon and Trainers, and build a party of up to six Pokémon.
Progression is structured around eight Gym Badges, new abilities learned through leveling and Technical Machines, and access to additional areas. The story culminates in the Pokémon League, while optional activities include contests, secret bases, fishing, item collection, and post-game exploration.
Plan your run
Build a balanced party with different types and keep several Pokémon close to the team’s level. Save strong status moves and type advantages for Gym battles, and carry healing items when exploring long caves or routes.
Teach field moves thoughtfully, since some are needed for progression. Explore side paths for items, revisit areas after gaining new abilities, and use the Pokédex to identify useful resistances and weaknesses.

Pokémon Sapphire Version is a Japanese role-playing game developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo for the Game Boy Advance. It takes place in the Hoenn region, where a young Trainer travels between towns, catches Pokémon, challenges Gym Leaders, and investigates Team Aqua’s plans. The game combines exploration, turn-based battles, creature training, trading, and link-based competition. Its colorful presentation, expanded battle mechanics, and large collection of new Pokémon were widely praised. Sapphire is the counterpart to Pokémon Ruby and forms part of the series’ third generation.
