How it plays
The game uses a top-down exploration view and turn-based battles. The player travels through towns, routes, caves, and special areas, captures Pokémon, trains a team, and challenges Gym Leaders.
Progression combines the main story with missions, puzzles, optional areas, and selectable difficulty settings. Pokémon gain experience, learn moves, evolve, and can be customized for different battle roles.
Plan your run
Build a balanced team with varied types and reliable status or support moves. Keep several Pokémon trained rather than relying on one favorite, because Gym battles and story encounters can use stronger or more specialized teams.
Read mission descriptions carefully and explore towns for side objectives. Adjust the difficulty if needed, and prepare healing items, status cures, and matchup-appropriate moves before major battles.

Before you begin

Check Pokémon abilities, held items, and move coverage instead of judging a team only by level.
Pokémon Unbound is a fan-made, turn-based role-playing game for the Game Boy Advance, developed primarily by Skeli and contributors. It takes place in the Borrius region, where the player becomes a Pokémon Trainer while investigating conflicts involving the powerful organization known as the Shadows. The game combines traditional gym progression with side quests, missions, configurable difficulty, exploration challenges, and a large selection of Pokémon from multiple generations. Its presentation and systems expand substantially on the original FireRed foundation. Pokémon Unbound received strong attention from the fan-game community for its polished design, extensive content, quality-of-life features, and unusually ambitious scope for a Game Boy Advance project.
