The objective is to develop a team and progress through successive areas before a failed run ends the attempt. Pokémon can be caught, trained, evolved, and equipped with items, while route choices and randomized encounters make each run different. Unlockable features and persistent improvements expand later attempts.

Build a balanced team rather than relying on one powerful Pokémon. Cover several types, keep answers to common weaknesses, and consider move accuracy and status effects as well as raw power.
