How it plays
The game uses FireRed’s top-down perspective and turn-based Pokémon battles. The player controls a Rocket grunt, explores the Kanto region, completes missions, fights trainers and wild Pokémon, and interacts with characters to move the story forward.
Progression follows a modified version of FireRed’s route and town structure, with new objectives and dialogue replacing or supplementing parts of the original adventure. Pokémon can be captured, trained, evolved, and organized in the party, while story decisions and Rocket assignments shape the campaign.
Plan your run
Build a balanced party rather than relying on one strong Pokémon. Keep several types available so the team can handle the varied trainers and story battles encountered across Kanto.
Talk to characters after major missions and revisit important locations. The hack changes dialogue and objectives, so checking familiar areas can reveal progression clues, items, or optional events.
Save before important battles and before making story decisions. Resource management matters because healing and suitable opponents are not always positioned exactly as in the original game.

Pokémon FireRed Rocket Edition is an unofficial role-playing adventure for the Game Boy Advance, developed by colonel salt as a modified version of Pokémon FireRed. It retells the Kanto journey through the eyes of a Team Rocket member rather than a conventional Pokémon hero. The core play style remains familiar: explore towns and routes, battle with Pokémon, collect items, and advance through story events. Its main distinction is the altered narrative, which presents criminal missions, rival encounters, and consequences for the player’s choices. The project is remembered by fan communities for its unusual premise, expanded dialogue, and darker interpretation of the FireRed setting, although its unofficial status means it has no commercial publisher or standard release history.
