How it plays
The game is viewed from a side-on perspective across a sequence of connected rooms and stages. The Prince must survive hazards, defeat guards and creatures, find routes through maze-like areas, and reach the exit before his available time expires.
Players run, jump, climb, hang from ledges, drink potions, draw a sword, and fight with directional attacks and parries. Progress depends on careful movement, discovering safe routes, collecting restorative or magical potions, and overcoming increasingly dangerous enemies and traps. The DOS release is a single-player campaign with no separate multiplayer mode.
Plan your run
Treat every screen as a timing puzzle rather than rushing forward. Stop at ledges, observe enemy patterns, and use short steps when approaching pressure plates, spikes, and drops.

Prince of Persia 2: The Shadow and the Flame is a cinematic action-adventure platformer developed and published by Broderbund for DOS in 1993. It continues the story of the unnamed Prince after his victory over Jaffar, forcing him into exile when an evil double takes his place at the palace. The game combines precise acrobatics, sword fighting, environmental traps, and exploration across palaces, ruins, caves, and forests. Its rotoscoped animation, detailed backgrounds, and expanded world were widely recognized as major improvements over the original, although the demanding timing and strict life limits remained challenging. The result is a landmark DOS platformer with a stronger narrative structure and more varied environments.
