How it plays
The main playfield is viewed from above in a two-dimensional vertical arrangement. Pairs of Puyos fall from the top, and the player moves or rotates them before they land. Matching four or more adjacent Puyos clears them; falling pieces then settle and may form chains.
Different rule sets change the goals and timing, with classic matches focused on chaining and Fever-style matches emphasizing timed opportunities and predetermined setups. Players progress through solo challenges or compete locally, trying to fill an opponent's field with garbage Puyos while keeping their own board under control.
Plan your run
Build chains rather than clearing isolated groups whenever the board allows it. Keep the lower part of the field orderly and leave room for the next falling pair.
In competitive matches, watch the opponent's nuisance-garbage indicator and prepare a response before the garbage lands. In Fever-style rules, use the available setup efficiently and prioritize chain length over small immediate clears.

Puyo Puyo! 15th Anniversary is a falling-block action puzzle game developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega for Nintendo DS. Players drop colorful Puyos into a playfield and connect four or more of the same color to clear them. Clears can create chains, sending nuisance garbage to an opponent in competitive play. The game celebrates the series with a broad selection of rule sets, including classic Puyo Puyo and Fever-style variations. It supports solo play as well as local multiplayer, with the DS hardware offering both button and touch-screen options in some modes. Reception generally praised its amount of content and multiplayer appeal, while opinions on the balance and complexity of its many rules varied.
