The Hero
The player-created adventurer, whose class, imported statistics, and decisions shape available solutions.
How it plays
The game uses a first-person exploration view with point-and-click interaction, inventory use, dialogue, and keyboard-supported commands. The hero travels between locations, examines objects, talks with residents, solves puzzles, and fights monsters in real time.
Progress follows a story-driven sequence of areas and events. Imported or newly created heroes retain class skills, while combat, magic, stealth, and dialogue options vary by class. Training and successful actions improve abilities, and several quests have alternative solutions or outcomes.
Plan your run
Explore each area carefully and revisit locations after major story events; important characters and clues are often unavailable on the first visit. Save before entering dangerous areas, making major dialogue choices, or attempting unfamiliar actions.
Use the hero’s strongest skills consistently, but do not neglect general abilities. Combat rewards preparation, while many problems can be solved through class-specific actions, magic, stealth, or conversation. Importing a developed hero can make the early game more forgiving.

Quest for Glory IV: Shadows of Darkness is a dark fantasy graphic adventure and role-playing game developed and published by Sierra On-Line for DOS. The player’s returning hero is drawn into Mordavia, a haunted land threatened by an ancient evil. Exploration, conversation, puzzle solving, combat, and character skills all contribute to progress. The game supports imported heroes from earlier Quest for Glory titles and adjusts some situations according to class. Its gothic atmosphere, strong writing, and unusually integrated RPG systems earned it a favorable reputation, although its original release was also criticized for technical problems and instability.
