How it plays
Counterstrike uses a top-down, mouse-driven real-time strategy perspective. Players establish a base, place a construction yard and production buildings, harvest ore with miners, and create units to attack, defend, scout, and complete mission objectives.
The expansion adds scenario-based missions and multiplayer maps. Progression comes from expanding the economy, unlocking production through buildings and technology, preserving experienced forces where possible, and adapting the army to the mission's terrain and objectives.
Plan your run
Secure ore fields early and protect miners with defensive structures or mobile escorts. A steady economy is usually more valuable than rushing a large army.
Scout before committing to an attack, keep different unit types together, and repair or replace damaged forces. In missions with scripted events, avoid advancing too quickly until the base is prepared for reinforcements or counterattacks.

Command & Conquer: Red Alert - Counterstrike is a real-time strategy expansion developed by Westwood Studios and published by Virgin Interactive for DOS in 1997. It builds on the alternate-history conflict of Red Alert, where Allied and Soviet forces fight for control of Europe using infantry, vehicles, aircraft, naval units, and base defenses. The expansion focuses on additional single-player missions and multiplayer content rather than replacing the original campaign. Players gather ore, construct bases, research or deploy military technology, and complete objectives through a classic top-down interface. Counterstrike was generally received as a substantial addition for Red Alert players, especially for its new scenarios and maps, although its campaign structure and challenge can feel uneven compared with the base game.
